Whats the difference between Astigmatism and Myopia?
Both are refractive errors. That is they are both things that you need glasses or contacts for and not eye diseases. Myopia is the same as nearsightedness. It means you can see near objects but you can’t see distant objects. Astigmatism affects your vision at all distances. It often causes shadows around objects or stretching of objects. Most of the time astigmatism is a result of the shape of your cornea. Instead of being spherical like a baseball, it is steeper in one meridian than the other like the side of an american football. Glasses, contacts and refractive surgery can treat both. People who wear astigmatism correction for the first time in their glasses often report that things are clearer but distorted. Contact lenses are more difficult to fit for astigmatism than myopia. A contact lens for myopia will perform equally well no matter how it is oriented. Contacts for astigmatism (toric contacts) have to be turned the correct way. They usually have little hash marks on the edge t
