Whats the difference between centerfire and rimfire cartridges?

0

Centerfire cartridges are fired by the firing pin striking the center (or very close to the center of the cartridge) as this is where the primer is located. A rimfire cartridge is basically the same as a centerfire, except the rimfire cartridge’s primer is in the rim of the cartridge so the firing pin actually strikes the outer edge of the cartridge to fire it. The rimfire primer is actually part of the casing rather than a separate part like it is in the centerfire cartridge.
