Whats the Difference between female and Male Beta fish?
A female will have a white ovipositor on her underside. Here is a picture- http://www.nippyfish.net/ovipositor1.jpg Fin length and coloration are not always reliable; short finned males (plakats) are out there, as are colorful females. Unless you work in a breeding facility, breeding is not necessary to learn, and in two years of working in a pet store I have only met one customer who has bred bettas. Betta breeding is time consuming, expensive, and requires a lot of know-how. I researched for months before attempting anything. I would not suggest it. It’s not as simple as housing them together. If your bettas came from a common chain-type pet store, odds are they are too old to breed successfully. Though if they do breed, what do you plan to do with 100-500 betta fry?
