Whats the difference between laminate, engineered wood, solid wood and vinyl?

Answer » « Close Laminate flooring is an HDF (High Density Fibre) board with a protective layer on the underside to prevent deformation and stop damp. On the top of the board is a decorative layer and the top layer is a transparent hard wearing laminate that’s virtually resistant to burns, scratches, chipping and is great for high traffic areas. It’s a cheaper alternative to solid wood and engineered wood and is also very easy to maintain. Laminate floor is ideal for those areas in your home that have very high footfall such as hallways and kitchens. Engineered floors are layers of solid wood fixed together and finished with a protective real wood veneer layer. As such they provide a great compromise between the durability of laminate and the feel and look of solid wood floors. Engineered wood can also be installed in areas where solid wood cannot due to it’s relatively high tolerance to moisture. A prime example of an area where you might use Engineered Wood would be in a conservatory
