Whats the difference between Lemuria and Atlantis?
Atlantis was first discussed by Plato in his dialogues Timaeus and Critias, and located “Beyond the Pillars of Hercules” (I.E., in the Atlantic Ocean). Supposedly it was destroyed in a series of catastrophes about 9,000 years before which would put its end at the end of the Ice Age. Lemuria began its career as an idea during the nineteenth century when scientists hypothesized a land bridge between the Indian Subcontinent and Madagascar to explain some of their shared fauna. The Incredible Madame Blavatsky took this idea and the name Lemuria, and identified it as the place where the first human race evolved. Since Ignatius Donnelly’s book Atlantis: the Antediluvian World had already partially liberated Atlantis from Classical Tradition, she identified Atlantis as a place of subsequent development before we spread around the world for our further development. Both Atlantis and Lemuria have played important roles in occult and alternative philosophies ever since. W. Scott-Elliott publishe
