Whats the difference between long life coolant and fully formulated and conventional antifreeze?

0

Long life, Extended Service or Extended Life coolants use carboxylates or non-depleting chemistry to protect the metals in the cooling system. Organic acids last a lot longer than conventional antifreeze additives. Some are compatible with everything and some are only compatible with other similar organic acid coolants. Fully Formulated means that a coolant is engineered for use in a diesel engine and does not need a supplemental coolant additive (SCAs) before use. Universal Antifreeze is antifreeze that can be used in virtually any vehicle. Conventional coolant is also another term used for universal antifreeze. Conventional chemistries require nitrite or nitrite plus molybdate to protect diesel wet sleeve liners. The newest technologies, including Cel-Cool, perform that function without these chemicals by improving the physical properties of the coolant so that the cavitation does not develop in the first place.
