Whats the difference between Love and Devotion? Do they mean the same thing?
Real love means putting someone else’s needs and wants ahead of your own. The other person comes first at all costs. (Infatuation or lust is quite a different story, of course. That’s all about me getting what I want from the other person.) Devotion is a matter of loyalty. It often goes with love, but is only one of love’s component parts. Devotion may be caused by selfish motives (Ron is devoted to Sheila because of how she makes him feel) but love can never be. Infatuation and/or lust are both selfish by nature. Love, also be nature, cannot be.
