Whats the difference between proven and unproven Alpacas?
For females, proven indicates that the female has produced at least one live-birth cria. Those females that have not yet had a cria are normally called maidens and are unproven for producing babies. For males, proven indicates that the male has successfully bred a female that resulted in producing a live-birth cria. Those males that have not settled a female resulting in a live-birth cria are considered unproven. All non-herdsire quality males will always be designated as unproven due to their non-breeding status. See also, “What’s the difference between SHOW, FIBER and COMPANION/PET animals” below.
