Whats the difference between wooden (or plastic) drawer slides and modern, full extension drawer slides?

Modern, full extension drawer slides pull out until you can see everything at the back of the drawer. A drawer that has wooden (or plastic) drawer slides/guides will have a dark space at the back because you cant pull the drawer all the way out. Well, actually you could but then it would drop onto your feet. Thinking of both style and safety, modern, full extension drawers wont come out of its opening unless you depress a couple of levers on the bottom. Plus, these modern drawer slides make it super easy to open and close a drawer. Even heavy drawers slide open with little effort. And to close them you simply tap the drawer front with a finger and they automatically roll themselves in. With the optional self-closing slides, just before they finish closing, a built in breaking system slows the drawer down so that it doesnt slam shut but silently eases closed. Compare that with manual drawers that you have to heft open and shove closed.
