Whats the difference in between an engagement party and a bridal shower?

0

An engagement party is fairly common here in Australia. The bride and groom to be host a party to announce their engagement. It is held as soon as they get engaged so their could be a year or two until the wedding. The party is often thrown by the couple themselves or by the brides family. They announce their intention to marry and the ring is shown off. Usually it is fairly informal, BBQ or finger food, DJ, dancing and fun. Guests will usually bring gifts, towels, toasters and such. That is the way it is done here in Australia anyways. Showers are usually held just before the wedding and people bring gifts, but smaller gifts, more tokens…..if it is for the bride, she might get lingerie or other small personal items. If it is a kitchen or household shower they give gifts to the couple that they will use at their home together. The biggest gift is the wedding gift, usually but again that is not compulsory. Hope that helps!
