That’s what immediately comes to mind, as it is one of the most famous pieces of 20th century music, and a staple of any modern theory class. The piece itself is 20 minutes, so maybe your searches on the internet just didn’t turn up the part of the piece that you are familiar with. You may have only listened to the 2nd part of Rite of Spring of class, as that has plenty of percussion and loud playing. But the actual beginning of the piece starts off slowly with an amazing bassoon solo that is extremely high for a bassoon. Very cool sound. It definitely wasn’t an impressionist piece though. Impressionism really doesn’t incorporate large amounts of percussion or blaring flutes. It’s about subtlety and beauty. Very turn-of-the-century French.
