Whats the point of diagnostic endoscopy/colonoscopy in a child with an autistic spectrum disorder?
ASD children with chronic GI symptoms often have a disorder known as Autistic Enterocolitis. It is extremely painful, and responds well to treatment, but most ASD children cant tell us about it, in part because its normal to them. The only way to diagnose it with certainty is to perform a diagnostic endoscopy and biopsy, in order to inspect the tissue samples under a microscope.
