Whats the worst intersection in Austin?
The worst intersection in Austin? My nominee would be Manchaca Road at Slaughter Lane, in South Austin. I have a theory on bad intersections and Mexican food restaurants. They go hand in hand, but not because an intersection goes bad because of the popularity of a Mexican food joint. My theory is that in your mind, the best Mexican food place is the best one closest to your house. Same with bad intersections. Your worst intersection in town is the bad one that’s closest to where you live. In my case, that would be Manchaca at Slaughter. A number of churches line Manchaca Road from William Cannon Drive south to Slaughter. I figure the reason they popped up there is that drivers headed south on Manchaca toward Slaughter would need divine guidance to deal with what they’ll face when they reach the Manchaca/Slaughter intersection. I keep expecting to run into the Popemobile. If you want to enter this contest, just write to John Kelso at Austin’s Worst Intersection, Austin American-Statesma
