Whats to Celebrate about Ascension Day?
Not every Christian will celebrate it or even talk about it this year. Many books of the New Testament of the Christian Bible don’t mention it. But other New Testament books mention it over and over again. Three of these books are the Acts of the Apostles, Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, and the letter to the Hebrews. Those authors clearly were excited about Ascension Day. Let’s see why… Why did Saint Luke mention Ascension Day so often in the book of Acts? The first chapters of Acts describe the apostles preaching in Jerusalem. They were preaching to people who had humiliated and murdered Jesus. These people had seen Jesus at his lowest. But on Ascension Day, God had enthroned Jesus in heaven and made him his “right hand man.” The apostles tried to get the people to understand how serious their sin was.
