NASCAR wants to stop these rules violations now. “We’ve got to do everything we can to make sure we’ve got an untainted winner,” NASCAR vice president of communications Jim Hunter said after crew chiefs Chad Knaus (Jimmie Johnson), Alan Gustafson (Kyle Busch) and Todd Berrier (Kevin Harvick) were fined and suspended for at least two races. Gustafson and Knaus were hit with two-week suspensions. Johnson’s Chevrolet roofline was found to be too low and Busch’s quarter panel too high. NASCAR gave Berrier four weeks off for fuel cell violations designed to make the car lighter for a qualifying session. Knaus was fined $35,000, and Berrier and Gustafson were hit with $25,000 fines. Knaus and Gustafson are expected to be at this weekend’s race as they appeal their suspensions, while Berrier begins his suspension.
