Whats wrong with my 2002 BMW X5?

I have a ’02 3.0l X5, with about 160,000 km (90,000 miles) on it. For some reason when I try to engage the alarm, only the doors lock and the lights dim. That audible beep is not heard and the red “clown” nose under the mirror does not flash. It only does this sometimes, as if it has a mind of it’s own or something. What can this be? Thanks in advance. A: You should bring your vehicle to a mechanic or shop who knows how to work on BMW’s and have the equipment to do so (a GT1/Dis). Specifically, the DWA (alarm) system needs to be diagnosed. Perhaps it just needs re-programming of the DWA or resetting of the car/key memory or a related fault in the general module which is concerned with central locking, but who knows?
