When applying to rent an apartment do you habe to show proof of income???
Absolutely! I am a property manager and you will have to prove that you can pay the rent. Would you give someone your car as they drove away with it after just promising they will send you the money? Some properties will allow you to have a co-signer who will be responsible for paying the rent. But, landlords don’t need to rent to anyone who can’t prove they can pay the rent themselves. I require someone to show me they have gross income (before taxes) of 3 times the monthly rent. This may come from a variety of sources, such as student loans plus work income. However, I also have the right to see if the income is enough to pay current debts – plus rent. For instance, there may be student loans for the right annual amount required, BUT, if the tuition at their school is the same amount of the rent, then obviously there’s no money left over to pay the rent. Another example is someone who makes plenty of money, but their credit card payments and car payments are so high that I don’t see
