When are granny smith apples in season in the UK?
Many years ago I lived in Kent, in the south of England, and our garden was full of Apple trees, with lovely green Cooking Apples, Eating Apples. My Mother used to wrap them in Newspapers and use them at Christmas Time, both Cooking and eating. I have heard that there is none there now as they have all been chopped down.Plus further down that road there were all Orchards, of which Apple Pickers were bussed down from the outskirts of London, and they stayed in Special Units built specially for them to live in.As a Child , I and others were always invited to join them at their picnics, and a super time was had by all.We also helped to pick the Apples, and we were awarded with Two Shillings & sixpence which was a fortune in those days. Happy Days. ! That was in September.
