It's not necessary, but extremely helpful to be sure your pet recieves the best continuation of care possible. The only thing the new hospital will need is the vaccination records, current medications and any health conditions your pet may have. Vaccinations can be given again without any harm to your pet if you are unsure of the history. If your previous veterinarian charges for photocopies of your records, you can have the new hospital call in for the necessary information instead.

You can request and get copies of ALL your cat's records your current vet has as well as the actual x-rays they have. These are yours. You may need to pay a small photocopy fee for them, but the records can't be kept from you and it's much easier taking a set than relying on the staff to fax the needed info over to the new vet.
