When did gregor mendel discover genetics?
Mendel made his mathematically determined discoveries from observations and research performed between 1856 – 1863. His discoveries were quite complex and, at the beginning, not well accepted. When his job at the Vienna monastery where he worked and lived was changed, he literally put his book documenting his research on a shelf. The book was not discovered until 1900. Unfortunately, Mendel died in 1884 and never knew his impact on the world of science and that he would become one of the most famous scientists of all time. Mendel was not the first to propose genetics however, he was the first to figure out that genes (he called them elements) came in pairs and that one member of each pair came from each parent. As a result of his realization regarding pairs of genes, Mendel determined what are called “Mendel’s laws of inheritance.” They are: The law of dominance and recessiveness. The law of random fertilization. The law of segregation FYI: Mendel was an interesting character. He did g
