He was supposed to race the 2008 supercross season with Monster, but decided it would be better to have surgery on his knee so that he could be prepared for the motocross season instead. While MX is popular, there’s more sponsorship money in SX because the television coverage is better. If you’re not on TV, then the money spent on sponsorship is wasted. James wanted his name in the record books more than he wanted to honor his sponsorship obligations. When it came time for renewing his contract for the 2009 season, Monster never called. Or returned his calls… Larry Brooks called back, though. He’s the team owner and manager of the San Manuel L&M Racing Team. They discussed the issues and decided that Bubba would roll the entire SX season and hit a few of the outdoor events, but not all of them.
