Yes. Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer and lived from 1473 to 1543. He founded the Copernican system on which modern astronomy is somewhat based. His treatise, De revolutionibus orbium coelestium was published in 1543 and described the sun as the centre of the “great system” with the earth revolving around it.
