The swimmer and her husband, photographer Sacha Brown, were married in May and welcomed the new addition, ringing in the scales at 7 pounds, 12 ounces. In an e-mail to The Associated Press, her agent, Evan Morganstein said, “Mom is doing great!” The 27-year-old swimmer, a seven-time Olympic medalist, competed in the most recent Beijing Games but failed to advance out of the preliminaries in the 200-meter breaststroke. Beard, who has also freelanced as a model, has appeared in FHM, the 2006 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and posed nude for the July 2007 issue of Playboy magazine. It wasn’t the first time for Beard to go nude for photos. In 2008, Beard took part in the infamous PETA campaign and was photographed in the nude with the American Flag in the background. Beard made her first Olympic appearance at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games at the age of 14, while still a student at Irvine High School in Irvine, California. She won a gold (4×100 m Medley Relay) and two silver medals (100 m breaststroke, 200 m breaststroke) at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She won a bronze medal (200 m breaststroke) at the 2000 Olympics. She won another gold (200 m breaststroke) and two silver medals (200 m individual medley, 4×100 m Medley Relay) at the 2004 games. Beard game birth to her first child, a son, on September 15, 2009.
