When did poland become a country?
In the eighteenth century Poland was an independent country with its own monarch. Constantly attacked by powerful neighbours it was eventually divided up between Russia, Austria-Hungary and Germany. Poland became an independent country again after the First World War. Officially the country is known as Republic of Poland, in Polish Rzeczpospolita Polska.
