In 1944 after Germans killed 250 thousands Varsovians in 63 days of Warsaw Uprising, it was already known that the Soviets will rule. While the Poles were fighting the Germans on one side of Vistula river, the Red Army was sitting and waiting on the other side of the river, waiting for Germans to finish the Poles.
