When did the first attack on the World Trade Center occur?
The first attack on the World Trade Center (WTC) occurred on February 26, 1993. At 12:18 p.m, Islamist terrorists detonated 1,500 pounds of explosives in a van parked in the underground public parking lot of the World Trade Center (WTC) two levels below the southern wall of the North Tower. The attack killed six people and an unborn child, injured more than a thousand, created a 5-story crater beneath the towers, and resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. The recovery took more than a year and generated physical and technological improvements to the towers as well as important enhancements to the training and composition of the WTC fire safety and security staffs.
