When do poison dart frogs acquire their poison?
Answer Dear Chrissy – To the best of my knowledge, the tadpoles of poison dart frogs (Dendrobates spp.) are not poisonous. The frogs reportedly aquire their store of poison through feeding on insects that in turn aquired the poisons from the plants that they fed upon. This helps explain why these froge tend to lose their toxicity when held in captivity, as their diet under those circumstances does not include the insect species from which they aquire their toxins.
