has to be taken out of the way before metaphase, so that the chromosomes can move out of the confines of the nucleus. Enzymes break down the membrane into small fragments, which travel through the endoplasmic reticulum to the poles. They will be used to construct new nuclear membranes around the daughter nuclei during telophase. more
