Even in medicated cycles, the endometrium thickens in the same manner that it does in the natural cycle. Even while the period is still going on, the endometrial lining is preparing for the next cycle. It begins to thicken in response to estrogen and reaches maximal thickness in the mid-luteal phase (the phase of the cycle from time of ovulation to time of onset of menses). Then as the period time approaches, it begins to break down.  more
