When does UT Southwestern start marketing a technology?
The marketing strategy for any technology is individually tailored, but a variety of strategies are used. The stage of development for the technology is of particular importance as many companies are unwilling to take a license for a technology that is too early stage. Public disclosure (see information on disclosure and confidentiality) of the technology also plays a part in how the technology is marketed. For example, publication of a technology often generates interest, and the technology transfer staff then handles any requests for additional information that interest creates. If the information is still confidential, the staff may contact specific companies that it believes would have an interest, or a particular market segment will be contacted by phone or letter with the hope of generating interest in the technology.
