When filling out a rental application can they do a credit check?
Credit checking is normal when you apply to rent a property. Of course your credit score can be taken into account – a bad credit score suggests that neither you nor your husband are very good at money management or paying what you owe. A landlord needs to know that their tenants are likely to pay the rent. Most base their judgement at least in part as to whether you will on whether you have done in the past. If other applicants have excellent credit scores as well as good jobs, they are more likely to be offered the house than you are. You can try offering the landlord a larger deposit or agreeing to pay X number of months rent upfront, to give the landlord a better sense of security.
