In order to get a paternity test the child and the father’s DNA both have to be available for the test to be conducted.

If a sample of the father’s DNA is available for transport, then the father does not have to be there in person, nor does the baby.  However, if this test is to prove paternity for child support or other legal matter, then it would be a great idea for you to get the father to personally submit his DNA.  In that way the testers will get all the proper paperwork signed, and there will be no question that the DNA is that of the father in question.
