When a voice caller phones the NRS the welcome message tells them to press 0 to continue. Sometimes this fails if the phone or the exchange can’t send a “tone” signal. If the phone is connected through an older PABX there is nothing that can be done. The caller must use a different phone that is not connected through the PABX or arrange for the PABX administrator to allow access to 133 677. Some phones have a switch on the underside of them that can be adjusted. This switch can be “Dec or Tone”, “Pulse or Tone”, or “Rotary or Tone”. Make sure it is switched to “Tone” (note that “Tone” won’t work in some rural areas).
