When is Nitrous Oxide Sedation Used?
Nitrous oxide can be administered in all types of dentistry. Is it used during extractions, endodontic therapy, periosontal treatment and just about any time something is uncomfortable for you. How is it done? Nitrous oxide is given through a mask that fits over your nose and you simply breathe normally. The dosage can quickly be adjusted if needed by the dentist or staff. It quickly takes effect (less than 5 minutes) and the recovery time is about 5 to 10 minutes. If you start to feel uncomfortable at any time, you simply breathe through your mouth to stop the nitrous oxide intake. What precautions must I take? You should have an empty stomach, no heavy meals within 2 hours and no light snacks for 30 minutes.
