When is the hottest time of day?
For most places most days, it is usually early-mid afternoon – about 2-3 PM standard time. Afterward, the ground cools more than the heat it receives from the sun (which may be thru clouds). Yet this varies quite a bit according to time of year, location, and the type of weather which occurs. A few examples: Locations near the coast of oceans or very large lakes often get an sea/lake breeze which develops after daytime heating has reached a certain point – especially during summer. When this occurs early, the daily maximum temperature may occur before noon. A mountain slope facing E-SE heats very quickly during a sunny morning because the sunshine is more direct on it – especially near the top where the nocturnally-cooled surface layer is shallow.
