When is the Houston Art Car Parade in Houston?”
Car-isma Dream the dream … drive the dream … honk if you love art cars. Copyright 2009 Houston Chronicle Somewhere along the road, to the surprise of pretty much everyone, the Art Car Parade grew up. It evolved from a collection of weirdos in weird cars to a beloved tradition celebrating weirdos in weird cars — the proudest moment on our civic calendar. Organized by the Orange Show since 1987, the parade slowly developed entry forms and rules. (No explosions. No firing projectiles. No setting your vehicle on fire.) Good Morning America showed up, as did school groups, politicians, corporate sponsors and even … tourists. (To Houston. Really.) We love the parade for its weirdness and the wildness, and we love the way it embodies our city: the loosey-goosey, live-and-let-live, do-your-own-thingness encoded in our civic DNA. We’re a place where people achieve dreams, and a car built mostly of polished wood is a cheerful reminder that not all of those dreams are about getting rich. Mayb
