When quitting a job what is written notice?
The reason he wants a written notice is to provide proof that you quit and were not fired. (If you quit, you cannot draw unemployment benefits.) Sometimes, employees wil file claims for UI benefits even though they quit, and sometimes they will be given the benefits (even though technically they do not qualify.) If you drew UI benefits, it would make his tax rate go up, which would cause him to pay higher UI taxes on all his employees for the next 3 years. That would be very costly for him. Your resignation notice protects him from that. Your resignation notice should be something like this: “I have decided to resign my position at McDonald’s effective at 5pm on Thursday, December 24, 2009. I have enjoyed working there and sincerely wish everyone the very best.” (Signed).
