When should a newborn puppy be taken to the vet?

They should be taken asap. You should always take the mother and pups within 48-72 hours of birth to make sure that the mother has no puppies or placentas left in her uterus, and to make sure that all of the puppies are healthy. Not to sound mean, but you should know this if you are going to breed dogs.I understand that the pregnancy may have been an accident, but there are far too many Chihuahuas in shelters now. Please, when you take the dog and pups, make an appointment to have the mother spayed.
