I think your’e asking the wrong question unless you have a squeaky clean XP install CD with product ID available and have carried out full backups of all your data: it really doesn’t matter whether someones opinion or experiences could possibly save you an hour or three of effort. It’s not worth the risk. All data can be migrated, but your applications should be individually checked out. 1. Yes you can change from XP to Vista, but there is no upgrade path. General opinion is that Vista is an aberration anyway – go directly to ‘7’ if you must and save some pain. Most would gladly swap Vista for XP Pro. 2. I have XP home, Pro and Vista premium. For the moment, all three have automatic security updates, but they also have the latest service packs installed. 3. Look up the potential cost of replacing Windows systems/applications over the next 2 years. Consider being happy with XP until then. By that time, there will be little or no support for Vista or ‘7’.
