Floatation is related to the ability of a coloured media to mix readily and remain stabilised with a white media. This phenomena occurs usually because one of the components is more stabilised than the other (usually the white). The level of floatation can be influenced by the stability of the two systems, the type of resin or dispersant used in both systems and the viscosity differences between the two components. Improvements can be made by using a dispersant system which is common to both systems, and by optimising the viscosity of both colour and white components to give similar profiles.
