When Was Exeter City Football Club Founded?
Exeter City Football Club was founded in 1904, when two local sides from the area agreed to a merger. These teams were Exeter United FC and St. Sidwell’s United which was a pub side. The two sides competed against each other in a match which St. Sidwells won 3-1. They agreed to join forces, with a compromise of playing in St. Sidwells colours, at the home ground of Exeter United which was St. James Park. Exeter City FC still play their home games at the ground of St. James Park, to this day. It has a current capacity for approximately 8,800 people. Exeter City FC became founder members of the Football League Third Division in 1920. They were relegated from the bottom division in 2003 and are currently part of the Conference National league. The club finished in 7th place in the table for the 2005/06 season.
