We do not know for sure, but Saul of Tarsus (Paul) was from the Hellenistic society and probably born in Tarsus (Asia Minor). He was a lifelong Jew and persecuted Christians until his conversion around the year 37 or 38. He was a reasonably young man then and he died in the mid 60’s or so, probably in the year 65, 66 or 67. He was probably born near the year 0 or just before or after. some accounts indicate that he was born as late as 9 or 10, but we just do not know. no formal canonization was done, but he is recognized by the Catholic Church as having been a saint from 29, June, 67. This means he was believed dead by this time. Thus he was a saint before formal canonizations were started (in the year 950). One might say he was grandfathered in, as were many others.
