The arches of the style we now refer to as “Roman” (which were developed from earlier Etruscan models) developed during the Roman Republican period. The earliest known Roman-style triumphal arch is that of Lucius Stertinius, which is dated to approximately 196BCE. Presumably there were earlier domestic and experimental examples, and the dating is further complicated by the fact that Triumphal Arches during this period were regarded as temporary structures, so chances are that there were earlier examples which went unrecorded.
