The 22nd Annual Houston Art Car Parade will be held on May 9, 2009 Houston Art Car Weekend is three days of events! HOUSTON — The streets of Houston are about to get funky, folks. It’s Art Car time! The annual Art Car Parade will roll through the Bayou City on Saturday, May 9. You don’t have to be an artist to appreciate these pimped-out rides – everyone’s invited, and the event is free! The cars will start lining up at 9 a.m. on Allen Parkway between Taft and downtown. If you arrive early, you’ll have a chance to admire the cars up close. Vendors and refreshments will be on site, and the parade will get rolling at 1 p.m. The 260-plus Art Cars will be competing for awards in 14 categories, including Mayor’s Cup, Parade Participants’ Choice, People’s Choice, Best Lowrider, Best Painted, Best Political Statement and more. The Art Car Parade has been a Houston tradition for 22 years and is the highlight of a three-day celebration of the drive to create, called Art Car Weekend.
