When will the old growth targets be in place so that the actual areas available for timber harvesting can be identified on the ground?

The Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management has an on-going initiative that will provide for more details on the actual placement of old growth areas on the ground, thereby clarifying the area available for timber harvesting. Specific areas identified for old growth retention are referred to as “old growth management areas” or OGMAs. The forest industry often has an active role in this initiative, and other stakeholders and First Nations are consulted. Ministry forecasts indicate that this more detailed planning work will be completed for a majority of the forest areas in the province by March 2005.
