When will the Spirit Squad make its debut at rentschler field?
The UConn football team makes its home debut today. So does the school’s new “spirit squad,” which replaces the traditional cheerleading squad. The 24-member squad, which will wear cheerleading outfits, will arrive at Rentschler Field for the Husky Walk about 2 1/2 hours before kickoff. The walk allows fans to greet players as they enter the stadium. After participating in the Husky Walk, the squad will visit fans in the tailgate area. Christine Wilson, assistant vice president for student affairs and director of student activities, said in an e-mail that squad members will pose for pictures with tailgaters and hand out pompoms and pins. The squad will march with the band around the stadium and perform at various tents. Once inside the stadium, squad members will visit with fans and hand out more pins, pompoms and cheer guides.
