Where are all the Women Inventors and Entrepreneurs?
June 3, 2009 At a European level only 20.3% of businesses started with venture capital belonging to female entrepreneurs and only 8.3% of patents awarded by the European Patent Office are awarded to women. The Women’s Entrepreneurship Hub of the University of Glamorgan, working in collaboration with the Welsh Assembly and the Wales Innovators Network (WIN), is aiming to help a group of Welsh women inventors to increase these percentages. Together We Win is a project launched in November 2008 with the aim of encouraging Welsh women inventors and investment in their ideas. From an initial awareness raising conference involving over 40 women inventors, marketers and business specialists, 12 of the women inventors have participated in a highly specialised programme of monthly training sessions designed to help them take their idea forward in preparation to make a pitch for investment to a panel of financiers this July.
