Where are the Best French Fries in Portland, Oregon?
I think Marco’s is great. It’s a cute little neighborhood spot with a unique atmosphere and a lot of personality. The nightly specials are innovative and exciting. Where else can you get prime rib, halibut and filet mignon for those prices? I’ve had the same meal at other, overpriced restaurants where the quality was the same, but the menu prices were a whole lot more As for the breakfasts, the potatoes are nothing special, but everything else I’ve ever had for breakfast there was fantastic. The omelettes are huge and inventive, like the black bean omelette, and they have really good bacon and sausage. As for previous reviews, do you really think Marco’s uses wonderbread for their french toast? I hardly think that a restaurant who strives to use organic, free range and natural ingredients (as it clearly states on the front of their menu) stoops as low as that for their french toast. I wonder if you even bothered to ask what kind of bread they use? Just wondering. Pros + cu
My wife and I attended La Traviata at the Zeller Auditorium last Friday night, and we dined at Carafe both before and afterward. We have eatten at Carafe numerous times the past 4 years, and we have always found the food and service to be excellent (my wife is a professionally trained chef, and we dine out often). We arrived at the restaurant, prior to the show, without reservations, and we were quickly seated. We told our server we would be attending the opera that evening, and that we were looking to have a small bite before the show. Our server suggested a couple of dishes, and my wife and I shared the tureen of rabbit- it was tasty; served with a small dish of tomato relish that was a perfect compliment to the rabbit. We set a reservation for after the show before we left the restaurant, and once again upon our return, we were promptly seated. I had been hearing great things about this place for years, and last week I finally made the trip out with a couple of friends. And all I can say is, wow, it was easily worth the drive. The Food:Calamity Jane’s has some of the best tasting burgers around, and with a pretty extensive menu, they’ve got every kind of burger you can think of ranging from mundane to “why would they even make that?” – so regardless of your taste, there will be something to suit you. and I can attest to the fact that the marshmallow and hot fudge burger is actually quite good. Their milkshakes are also fantastic, and quite large. The Atmosphere:The restaurant has a western sort of theme, and while the theme has been done to death, Calamity Jane’s did a good job at at least making it look good.
