Where are the tornado sirens?
On light poles and building roofs, says Susan Nowlan, a Hennepin County Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. The distance between them varies according to their decibel level and nearby noise-blocking obstacles such as hills and skyscrapers. The county, not the city or the National Weather Service, is responsible for testing them every first Wednesday and for activating the sirens in case of a tornado.
