The saddest song I have ever heard is Caseys last ride. If you can find it, you need to listen to the John Denver version, not the Kirsi Kristofferen one. It’s about a guy who goes back to see an old flame, and she’s obviously fallen on hard times, but they still have feelings for each other. He leaves, at the end to go back to his family, and the vocals are incredible, as JD sings both from his and her perspective. Her -lines like: “Oh she said, Casey it’s been so long since I’ve seen you, just she said, just a kiss to make a body smile..” Him: “He stumbles as he’s leaving, and he wonders if the reason is the beer that’s in his belly, or the tear that’s in his eye.” It really is a great song, and incredibly sad, so if that’s what you want, that’s the one.
